Eminem’s former sister-in-law, Dawn Scott, died of a suspected heroin overdose in a Detroit trailer park on Tuesday, January 18, police told Page Six.
Scott, who was 41 at the time of her death, is the twin sister of Eminem’s ex-wife, Kim Mathers. Both Kim and Dawn moved in with the rapper and his mother when they were just 15 years old, and Eminem (ne Marshall Mathers) was the legal guardian of Scott’s 22-year-old daughter, Alaina.
Police in Scott’s hometown of Warren, Michigan, told Page Six that a toxicology test is still pending.
On Wednesday, January 20, Kim posted to a sweet note to a funeral home’s website in Scott’s memory.
“Dawn was my sweet, beautiful sister who lost her way,” the 41-year-old wrote. “I kept a light lit for her hoping she’d find her way back to me. I miss her and love her more than anything I could ever say. I wish she was here so I could hug her and tell her I love her. Half of me is gone and I will never feel whole again.”
Other family members posted similar messages to the board, including Scott’s mother.
“My gorgeous daughter whom I loved dearly,” Kathy Sluck wrote on Thursday, January 21. “I often argued with about her life choices. Hoping she would eventually turn her life. I loved her deeply and will miss her even more she will always be in my heart because she is part of me. I never thought she would leave this earth before me, this is something I can’t handle. Love You forever my beautiful daughter. Love your Mom.”
