Paul Onobi,a defensive midfielder says he wants to show everyone he deserves a permanent shirt in the Super Eagles by putting up an awe-inspiring display at the 2016 African Nations Championship.
The midfielder who came to the limelight in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory against Swaziland in a World Cup qualifying game is one of the players expected to help the country have a good outing in Rwanda.
According to him, his main focus is to cement a first team place under coach Sunday Oliseh not minding the presence of established foreign based professionals, goal.com reported .
“This is one of my biggest years as a professional footballer because my dream of playing for the Super Eagles became a reality,” Onobi said.
“I am doing all I can to make Nigeria squad to the African Nations Championship where I will have the world at my feet and show everyone that I deserve to be a regular place in the star studded Eagles.
“The atmosphere in camp is very lively and everyone is set to do the country proud.
“I consider it a great honour to be part of this group. I’ll try to do my best so that I am able to take a step further in my dream of playing at the highest level,” he concluded.
Nigeria are pooled in Group C against Niger, Tunisia and Guinea and will play their first game at the competition against the Menas on January 18 at the Stade Régional Nyamirambo, Kigali.
